The Work and Learn (WAL) service opportunity is a program of Mennonite Central Comittee (MCC) to provide the opportunity to North Americans for short term service and learning with MCC projects across the globe.

We invite anyone who is interested to be a part of a WAL team here at Bezaleel. Teams work along side of the indigenous K'ekchi' people to assist with construction of new facilities for the campus. Volunteers come from all walks of life and have a wide variety of vocational skills.

October 2004, two Mennonite congregations from west central Ohio joined together to form the West Liberty, WAL Team. This team joined with a group of eleven Bezaleel students to form the "Dream Team"

Aside from their physical labor, learning is an important componant of each WAL team visit. Teams visit places of cultural and historical interest throughout the Alta Verapaz region, hear from K'ekchi' people and get first hand experiences of K'ekchi' life.

WAL teams can vary in size from 3 to 13 people. Most WAL teams choose to come for a two week period. Working Monday-Friday and leaving for learning tours on the weekends. However, some youth groups have chosen to come for only one week.

In the summer of 2002, the. Kidron Mennonite MYF, of Kidron, OH, visited Bezaleel for two weeks of service and learning.

While at Bezaleel the team build steps to improve access to the the Bezaleel House. They enjoyed interacting with the K'ekchi' students at Bezaleel and learned a metric ton of interesting things.
